چکیده

Chronic intermittent hypoxia occurring in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is independently associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). pulmonary (COPD) has also been suggested to be linked disease. In this individual participant data meta-analysis, we investigated the association between damage and OSA COPD severity. Patients suspected of underwent polysomnography (PSG) or home testing (HSAT). Non-invasive tests were used evaluate steatosis (Hepatic Steatosis Index) fibrosis (Fibrotest FibroMeter). An meta-analysis approach was determine if severity OSA/COPD affects type Results confirmed by multivariate causal mediation analysis. Sub-group analyses performed investigate specific populations. Among 2120 patients, 1584 had (75%). multivariable analysis, risk factors for an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) > 5/h, body mass (BMI) 26 kg/m2, age, 2 diabetes (all p-values <0.01) male gender (p = 0.02). Concerning fibrosis, among 2218 patients 397 (18%). Risk BMI>26 gender, <0.01). AHI not fibrosis. A combination >30/h stage 1 increased steatosis. This confirms strong OSA. The relation mainly due BMI as shown

Determination of The Relationship Between Severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea And Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients are at increased risk of sleep-disorders. The concomitant occurrence of COPD and obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is named overlap syndrome. This study aimed to evaluate the severity of OSAHS in overlap syndrome patients.Materials & Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on adult patients with forced...

Coexistence of obstructive sleep apnea and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may lead to chronic alveolar hypoventilation. The coexistence of OSA and COPD has been termed the ‘overlap syndrome’. The aim of the study was to determine the relationship between the severity of COPD and the occurrence of chronic alveolar hypoventilation in patients with OSA and to evaluate the impact o...

Statins and Pulmonary Hypertension in Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease

Chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD) is a chronic multisystem disease with a considerable burden. One of its most common complications is pulmonary artery hypertension (PAH). It has been demonstrated that the development of PAH is correlated with decreased quality of life and survival. Different medications have been proposed for the treatment of PAH, among which one can name statins. Howeve...
